2018 YTD sales of Jetta

We know that Volkswagen alike many other automakers, is seeing a hard decline in sedan sales. So far this year, sales of the Jetta are down a whopping 51%, whereas in 2016 the Jetta was one of Canada's best selling cars. Hopefully the newly redesigned 2019 model isn't too little too late. Consumers seem to be increasingly turning towards Golfs and Tiguans.

Sedan sales aren't exactly dead if you look at the new Honda Civic. It's a matter of coming out with something that's very appealing in order to draw the crossover/suv people to the smaller vehicle segment. At least the Jetta is still being updated and sold because other models like the Chevy Sonic, Impala, Ford Fiesta and Taurus may not be so lucky.

No one said that sedan sales were dead, just in decline and that's affecting every manufacturer. I think the new Civic is selling many more hatchback models, than sedans. I think the 2019 Jetta's new look and new price will help boost its current lack of sales.

The new Arteon seems to be gaining pretty good traction, so it looks like there is interest in more luxury focused sedans. Even the new Accord is having a hard time finding buyers, with Honda having to put a pause in production.

Maybe VW can do with the Jetta what Honda did with the Civic, offer it in three body styles; sedan, coupe, hatchback. Could be a more affordable option for those who don't want a civic.

I for one would love to see the Scirocco return to the U.S, but I know how unlikely that is. Don't think they have any interest in diversifying the Jetta's body styles as that will infringe upon Golf sales.
