A Jetta GTI TCR Would Be Nice

No, this isn't coming, but the Golf GTI TCR is going to be revealed soon and it's actually road legal too! The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine offers 286 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. With a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, it should have a top speed of 164 mph. Would be nice if the Jetta had something similar in terms of power.

I don't know how much interest there would be in a performance variant of the Jetta, aside from the R line. Anyone looking for extra pep out of a sedan will likely look to the new Passat GT or Arteon. Though those come with a significant bump in price.

Its nice, but will be nice at the right time. At the moment its too soon to be launched. 2-3 years after initial of the 7th jetta launch i would like to see it happen.

In 2-3 years I expect most performance models to be fully electric, so I doubt we'll be seeing this variant of the Jetta at all. As said above there are plenty of other options for performance sedans, and the Jetta has always put comfort and efficiency first.

At this point, VW is more likely to come out with a performance Arteon than the Jetta because the latter is expected to be a bread and butter kind of car while the former is a luxury vehicle aimed at people with deeper pockets.

They've already shown off the R line variant of the Arteon, but I don't believe it came with any changes to the powertrain. I don't know why VW continues to expand the R line trim to other models, when all it really seems to add is some slight changes to styling.
