Jetta R Line SoCal Concept

Worthersee has brought many awesome VW concepts to light, and one worth having a look at is the SoCal concept. It features a new prototype coilover suspension system, fluorescent yellow accenting, 19' custom multi spoke wheels and black graphics on the rear fenders. Doesn't look like there were any changes to the standard powertrain.

The yellow accents are nice, but not sure about the spider web design on its roof. Too bad they didn't tune the engine, just so it can live up to the R badge in performance. At least a slight 10-20hp boost!

Its pretty ridiculous that VW is offering a performance boost in the R line T-Roc, but not on the Jetta or Arteon. I hope they change that decision in the future, because I don't think its worth dropping additional money on a trim that comes with some styling tweaks. Rather choose those on my own.

Well the T-Roc is their brand new model, and with the popularity of crossovers it makes sense that they are diversifying the powertrain options. I guess with the new Passat GT, there's not much interest in a performance trim on the Jetta.

What would be great for VW is if a company like Brabus can come along and tune them. Being a run off of Audi product helps and I bet they can still price it well within reach of those buying a high trim VW. Maybe then we can get some concept-like stuff.

Doubt Brabus will work with VW cars when they're known for tuning Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Tesla and Maybach vehicles. All very high end and performance oriented to begin with, aside from Smart.

If not them then ABT or some similar tuners needs to get on board. Its hard to discount how great of an opportunity this is. IMO its the next best thing to owning an Audi A3... except here we have adequate cabin room to seat 4 without issue.

The most likely options are those who are already offering tunes for the current generation Jetta because they're already used to the brand and model whereas Brabus will have to start from scratch. Unless the Jetta sells like hotcakes and there's a large demand for it.

Hence why ABT is a great option. Already in the current Jetta they were able to produce nearly 340 horsepower. For this segment it creates a fun power to weight ratio.
