Overall VW sales are up, but the Jetta is way down

According to a recent article from Automotive News, VW sales having risen by 4% last month. The majority of this success can be attributed to their new crossovers however, as it looks like overall Jetta sales have dropped by a whopping 41%. Hopefully the redesign and lower price point of the new Jetta helps it to regain some of this lost ground.

Sedan sales are on the decline for a lot of automakers, that's why we're starting to see even higher end brands like Alfa Romeo come out with their own SUVs and crossovers. The trend may shift in the future, but for now the Jetta is a tough sell. Good for those who haven't bought one yet because some good deals are on the horizon due to poor sales.

Its about time that they bring over vehicles sold overseas. VW UP! was a great compact but never made it to the U.S.
Slowly the demand for such vehicles is growing. It's why cars like the Fit and Fiesta sell well.

I really don't know what else VW can do to encourage more interest in their sedans. They have already dropped the price and increased the standard tech in the 2019 model. As much as I hate to say it, they may have to look to wagon variants that provide more utility.

I think it might have to do with the fact that VW only offered one engine at release of the Jetta and for me at least I am going to miss some standard features that are coming to my trim later in the year, i.e. heated steering wheel, remote start, heated wiper area ect. It's too bad they couldn't include that at the start for the SEL Premium, but maybe that's why some are holding off and why Jetta sales aren't doing great so far?

Most know that Audi is closely tied to VW and have seen major changes taking place.
After looking at the 2019 Jetta its easy to see why people would hold out.

People need to get out and test drive some Jettas. I just spent 3 months searching for the perfect new car. I test drove everything. I should preface that I was specifically looking for manual transmission. 10 minutes in a GLI and now I have one
